Threshold

Threshold: The place or point of entering or beginning
                 - Merriam Webster

Arches are a shape that return again and again in both my enamel and ink drawings. Over time the arch and arch-like shapes have come to represent the concept of thresholds.

Thresholds, both physical and metaphorical, are liminal spaces, not fully here yet not fully there. Sometimes a threshold is so familiar we don’t consciously mark the crossing, like stepping from my dining room into my living room. Other times a threshold looms large, marking the first step from the known into the unknown. As someone who often seeks the comfort of routine, these drawings remind me to also be open to liminal spaces and the beauty that might lie beyond new thresholds if I have to courage to cross them.
